The comité d'accueil des nouveaux arrivants (welcome committee for newcomers) of the MRC Côte-de-Gaspé was implemented by the counselors of the Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi, of Place aux Jeunes and by individuals from the region who strongly believe in community development. These individuals unit to offer a warm welcome, support and a follow-up to newcomers and to individuals who return to our region.

For newcomers, the welcome committee responds to several needs:

• Creates a network between them and the population (to avoid isolation)
  
• Encourages social integration
  
• Provides knowledge of their new surroundings
  
• Has at their disposal a bank of human resources in various fields

The primary objective of the welcome committee for newcomers when it was implemented was to stimulate the interest of our MRC and to encourage newcomers to stay.
